WELCOME TO BOWBROOK ARCHERS
We like to think that we are one of the most welcoming and friendly Archery Clubs in Shropshire. We have a membership of almost 200 people, covering all age groups and Archery skill levels. While many of our members take part in competitions our main aim is to have fun and enjoy shooting. We encourage all members to develop Archery for themselves, be that target, field or clout disciplines. We also welcome all bow types: compound, freestyle (recurve), longbow, traditional and barebow.
We are one of the only clubs in Shropshire that has its own shooting ground, providing both Outdoor and Indoor ranges. Members have unlimited access to these area’s and can shoot at virtually any time, providing ArcheryGB safety guidelines are followed. Our outdoor range has targets laid out at a variety of both imperial and metric distances which can easily be moved and additional targets can be set up, as required.
Club Sessions run on Tuesday & Thursday evenings (5pm-9pm), Saturday afternoon (2pm-5pm) and Wednesday and Sunday daytime (10am-1pm). During the summer months (April – September) the club shoots outdoors, and indoors during the winter months (mid-September to March/April).
We have several qualified Level 1 and Level 2 Coaches. Coaching is available to any member who wants to improve their performance, but we do not pressure you. If you only want to shoot for fun that is fine, as long as you are safe. For those people who want help or advice they just need to ask. Some Coaches are available outside Club Sessions – again, Members just need to ask, and something will be sorted to suit.
Bowbrook holds monthly field shoots and field practices during the winter months, using 3D targets. These introduce archers to field shooting but are not NFAS accredited field courses due to space constraints. These take place at a separate location to our target shooting field, directions are on the find us section of the website. To cover the additional costs of using the woods, there is a small charge, not included in the Membership Fee. Archers from other clubs are welcome at the field shoots provided there is space available and they are ArcheryGB members.
The Club field is marked out for Clout shooting as well as Target shooting – although there is insufficient overshoot for Clout using compound bows. Scoring circles are marked out for all distances of 80 – 180 yards. We hold several clout practice sessions each year, usually between August & October to give archers a chance to practice before the National, and Shropshire County clout competitions in October.
We recognise that we have facilities that other clubs do not have and are happy to make them available to other archers by offering Associate Membership to them. Associate members pay Club fees, but not ArcheryGB fees. They then have full access to our facilities. Visitors from other clubs are welcome, paying a visitors fee (£5) for each attendance.
We regularly run Archery Have-A-Goes over at Attingham Park. Our Archery Experience Sessions – for corporate events, families, parties – provide a couple of hours of archery fun for groups, whilst the first Tuesday evening session each month provides a pre-bookable, individualised, ‘Try Archery’ half-hour sessions.
We regularly run Beginners courses, which introduce you to shooting a bow and arrow safely and starting you off with this Olympic sport. More information on all these is available in one of our brochures at the top of this page. For safety reasons, we have a minimum age of 8 for these courses.
Our club is a limited company – a non-profit making organisation run by members for the benefit of members.
