I can’t believe it, but here we are, another Christmas time, and another New Year to look forward to!
What a busy, exciting time we had in 2017! My thanks to everyone who contributed so much in making it another successful year for everyone at Bowbrook Archers.
As we look forward to 2018, I can see the many new faces who have joined us this year. Some new Members have joined after moving to the area, some are returning Members, who, for a variety of reasons, have picked up their bows once more, and many have come from our very successful Beginners Courses. A warm welcome to each and everyone. Special thanks to all the Volunteer Coaches who continue to help introduce new people to our sport. We will be thinking about 2018 Courses soon – in the meantime, Barbara is working on running another Level 1 Coaching Course – anyone interested, have a chat. We need more Coaches – not just for the Beginners, but to support Club Sessions, too.
With The Shed now being (almost) finished, we are all grateful to those who have made loans which have allowed us to get in to the facility much sooner than would otherwise have been possible. So, a big thank you to them! Neil will be organising the 2018 Have-A-Goes soon – so we’ll hope to see lots of new faces supporting them! These are our main ‘income generator’, but are also a lot of fun, and another opportunity to open up our sport to the public.
We used to say we were one of the biggest Archery Clubs in the County – we’ll I’m now told we’re one of the biggest in the COUNTRY! So, I have to say a huge thank you to all our Committee Members – past and present – who make sure your Club runs so smoothly! The same goes for our other Volunteers – Caterers, Bulletin Editor, Shoot Organizers, Working Parties, and so on. Members who volunteer their own skills and time to make sure the rest of us enjoy our membership!
Because, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter about what facilities a Club has, it doesn’t matter how fortunate we are to now own our own Indoor and Outdoor Range’s – what does matter to any Archery Club is that we have a membership who can get the most out of their hobby, whether that is social, recreational or competitive! And I think we at Bowbrook certainly do!
So, my personal best wishes for 2018 – here’s to another great Bowbrook year!
Sam Dixon, Chair, Bowbrook Archers
