About Us

We want to promote Archery as a sport for all: we are inclusive, and encourage everyone to enjoy this great sport! It has great mental and physical wellbeing benefits, is family friendly, and doesn’t have to cost the earth.

We like to think that we are one of the most welcoming, and friendly, Archery Clubs in Shropshire. We are the only one to own its own shooting ground, providing both Outdoor and Indoor ranges – which means our members can enjoy their archery virtually whenever they like. The club is a limited company – a non-profit making organisation run by members for the benefit of members.

Our location is detailed on the ‘Find Us’ section of the website. Here you will find directions to our ‘field’, as well as the woods used for Field shoots.

We have a large membership, covering all age groups and Archery skill levels. While many of our members take part in competitions our main aim is to have fun and enjoy our shooting. We encourage all members to develop Archery for themselves, be that Target, Field (we have use of a nearby wood) or Clout disciplines. We also welcome all styles and bow-types: compound, freestyle (recurve), longbow, traditional, barebow.

Members have unlimited access to our Indoor and Outdoor Ranges, and can shoot at any time provided ArcheryGB safety guidelines are followed. They just check our website Events page to see what’s happening, and then just turn up and enjoy. Outdoors, bosses are laid out at both imperial and metric distances. Bosses may be easily moved and additional bosses can be set out if required

Club Sessions run Tuesday & Thursday evenings, and Wednesday and Sunday daytime. During the summer months (April – September) the club shoots outdoors, and indoors during the winter months (mid-September to March/April). Full details are on our website.

The club has a number of qualified Level 1 and Level 2 Coaches. Coaching is available to any member who wants to improve their performance but we do not pressure you. If you only want to shoot for fun that is fine as long as you are safe, if you want help or advice, you just ask. Some Coaches are available outside Club Sessions – again, Members just need to ask, and something will be sorted to suit.

The club holds regular Field shoots, and monthly Field practices, using 3D targets. These introduce archers to field shooting, but are not up to the full standards of the national governing bodies due to space constraints. However, they do include a higher proportion of short to mid-range shots than you would get in a formal field shoot. They are also great fun, with the shoots attracting participants from across the county. To cover the additional costs of using the woods, there is a small charge, not included in the Membership Fee. A BBQ and refreshments are available at the Field shoots, but not at the practice sessions. Archers from other clubs are welcome at the field shoots provided there is space available and they are ArcheryGB members.

The Club field is marked out for Clout shooting as well as Target shooting – although there is insufficient overshoot for Clout using compound bows. Scoring circles are marked out for both FITA and ArcheryGB clout at distances of 80 – 180 yards. We hold several clout practice sessions each year, usually between August & October to give archers a chance to practice before the National, and Shropshire County clout competitions in October.

We recognise that we have facilities that other clubs do not have and are happy to make them available to other archers by offering Associate Membership to archers who are members of other clubs. Associate members pay Club fees, but no ArcheryGB fees, as they have already paid these via their main club. They then have full access to our facilities. Visitors from other clubs are welcome, paying a visitors fee for each attendance.

We regularly run Archery Have-A-Goes over at Attingham Park. Our Archery Experience Sessions – for corporate events, families, parties – provide a couple of hours of archery fun for groups, whilst the first Tuesday evening session each month provides a pre-bookable, individualised, ‘Try Archery’ half-hour sessions. More details are available on the website, or in our brochure.

We regularly run Beginners courses, which introduce you to shooting a bow and arrow safely, and starting you off with this wonderful hobby. More information on these is available on the website, or in the brochure. For safety reasons, we have a minimum age of 8 for these courses.
